Uganda Bird Watching – Shoebill Tour to Mabamba
Get the best birding experience and spot the rare Shoebill Stork in a place known to be the most accessible worldwide for watching these unique birds in their natural habitat…
Our tour guide will meet you at your hotel just after you have enjoyed your breakfast and drive you to Mabamba swamp. Just an hour’s drive from Entebbe, you will be at Mabamba Bay Wetland – an Internationally recognized Ramsar Site wetland. Its global importance is derived from the fact that this wetland is home to rare and highly endangered bird species like the Shoebill (Balaeniceps rex), Papyrus Yellow Warbler and the Blue Swallow (Hirundo atrocaerulea).
Here you are, with very high chances to see the elusive shoebill stork at least before the end of the day. This implies that you will carry packed breakfast and lunch in order to spend your day searching for these eye-catching birds including white winged terns, long toed plover, grey headed gull, White-winged Warbler, Northern Brown-throated Weaver, Yellow billed egret, Madagascar bee-eater among others.
It is indeed an exciting experience to watch these birds on a local canoe in the presence of our experienced birding tour guide. Later you will leisurely take a natural walk as you appreciate nature and breathe the fresh air from the wetland. On a good day you may also come across a gazelle or sitatunga hopping in the papyrus.
