The Hollows: Kim Harrison is full of surprises.
Best belated surprise ever! As if Kim Harrison wasn’t *already* my favorite author in the WORLD, I just discovered this. I had NO idea she acknowledged me in the novel’s final print! I cannot believe she did this! I just thought she hooked me up with the ARC of Ever After after I alerted her to a continuity error in the Into the Woods ARC. I had no clue about this until one of my Goodreads friends wished me a happy birthday and said she just finished the book and saw the thank you. Of course I was like, “wait, whut?” Then I immediately sought it out myself. So yeah, I feel like a total idiot for not even looking the first time, but…
Let’s just say I’ve been waiting months for the right moment to use this gif:
KIM ROCKS!! It’s also on Amazon’s preview http://www.amazon.com/
And the wait for The Undead Pool just became that much worse!!
Poll: Ben Affleck is the new Batman for the upcoming Superman/Batman sequel
There have been a lot of rumors surrounding who would be the next Batman in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel which would feature Superman teaming up with Batman. The biggest one yet was that Christian Bale was offered $50 million to reprise his role as the caped crusader. I would have been perfectly okay with that even if he reneged on his word that he was done donning the bat suit. But now we’ve got news that’s totally out of left field; the new Batman is Ben Affleck of all people! This was certainly a shocker for me! I will start by saying that I like Ben Affleck in general. He’s a solid director and has a great sense of humor. The I’m f*cking Ben Affleck skit with Jimmy Kimmel is comedic gold. See for yourself:
But I just can’t imagine him as Bruce Wayne. That would be like imagining him playing Trent Kalamack to me. Bruce Wayne is super handsome, debonaire and privileged. And I don’t care how long it’s been since Daredevil; the film sucked and the only good thing to come out of it was Evanescence. That leaves a bad taste in my mouth whenever he’s associated with a superhero film.
Will I still see the film? Hell yes. Henry Cavill is more than enough to make it a worthwhile experience for moi. Hell, at this rate I’d have been happy if Cavill played both Batman AND Superman. He’s perfect for either one.
How do you guys feel about it?

Movie Review! The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones
When her mother disappears, Clary Fray learns that she descends from a line of warriors who protect our world from demons. She joins forces with others like her and heads into a dangerous alternate New York called Downworld.
My general thoughts:
It wasn’t great, but I didn’t fall asleep either so I guess the one plus is that it wasn’t boring? I’m 95% through the first book and there were definitely some differences. Some purists will have a field day ripping it apart. I felt as if it was a extremely rushed in first half. They got to all of the big scenes while cutting out a lot of character development that would allow us to become invested in the cast. Don’t get me wrong, I could have done without some of melodrama we’re subjected to in the books, but I just felt like this cut things down way too much. It’s even harder to buy into Clary and Jace. I think Jace is more appealing in the movie as opposed to the books where I often found him annoying, probably because we’re getting a smaller dose of him here. But I felt no chemistry at all between him and Clary in the film. It felt forced and honestly I laughed at the attempts at romance.
There were other laughs too, but a number of them were probably unintentional. There’s this one scene that feels like the film pays homage to the beginning of the Wesley Snipes’ Blade when he clears out a vampire house set to techno music.
The third act was probably the most entertaining part of the film, but it strays from the book quite a bit in an attempt to cut down running time.
On the plus side, I think it’s better than Twilight’s first film, though admittedly I am not a Twilight fan. I only read the books and then saw the first two movies before tapping out (and no, I don’t think I’m missing out on anything). I also think it is probably better than that disastrous upcoming Vampire Academy movie, though that’s not saying much. The trailer told me all I need to know for that one and really the trailer for Mortal Instruments did as well. There were no surprises in terms of the mood, acting, plot, etc.
The effects were well done, but the demons weren’t how I imagined them in the novel. I feel like they missed out on an extra level of scariness. I would watch the second film if this one grosses enough money to get a sequel. I’m sure it will.
In short, I’ve seen worse book adaptations, but this is far from good even though it was entertaining. Readers of the book should watch it. I’m new to this series so I will be taking my time.

Thanks again to all of you for your continued support, especially for the 3D contest! It really means a lot. My Misfit costume didn’t win the 3D challenge, and as I mentioned before, River and I posed with the Eredar Twins too but Game Spot had technical difficulties. Somehow they still managed to send a 360 degree gif of my session, just to show me what could have been *sigh* Oh well. Maybe next time! Here’s the gif:
The Hollows - The Undead Pool Cover Reveal
Or maybe I should say the lack thereof? We saw A Perfect Blood’s cover sometime in July, Ever After’s probably wasn’t far off either, but Kim has been giddily keeping it under wraps. This post has me curious too. So, what’s the hold up? Do you think maybe Trent will be on the cover this time?
In other news, if you still don’t have The Hollows Insider, the paperback and ebook are now available, and the moon still glows in the dark! (well, for the paper one anyway…):

I’m curious as to how the graphics would show up on an e-ink Kindle myself. It certainly added to the experience for me. It’s one of those instances where I prefer a tree book. But maybe I’ll try a sample just to compare.
Vampire Academy Movie Trailer is out!
I’m sorry but this looks like a hot mess. It doesn’t capture the feel of the books at all and if that’s Dmitri…I’m just all kinds of meh on this one.
Jaded Touch (Vesper #2) by Nola Sarina
Synopsis: Three is tormented by the branding scars on her back, broken memories of her fallen creator, and the looming consequences of her secret friendship with Sychar - a male of her kind - a high crime in her world of serpentine guardians. Then along comes Jack - the human train engineer she saves in an explosion. His touch weakens both her knees and her sense of duty. Now Three must choose between her immortal duties, her forbidden friendship, and her human lover.
Review: As a follow-up to Gilded Destiny, which I enjoyed quite a bit, I must say that Jaded Touch was also well done. I feel like the Vesper species is a pretty unique addition to the world of urban fantasy. My favorite part of this novel would be the origins and development of their race. Though it’s a short read, a borderline novella, it offers very solid world-building and it pulls me in as effectively as any full length novel, leaving me wanting to know what comes next. The politics and dynamics between male and female Vespers adds just the right amount of tension while still keeping things unpredictable. I still have questions, but I feel as if more layers will be peeled back in the next installment.
The relationship of Jack and Three has me on the fence. Though the dynamic didn’t always work for me, they have a lot of chemistry. As their own characters I liked them quite a bit though. Scarred and tormented, Three has to march by the beat of her own drum due to her origins, so she’s constantly getting into trouble. But deep down she is a genuine person and she’s easy to root for.
Considering how the first book ended I actually was expecting this novel to be a continuation of that one. And considering how this one ended, there are even more possibilities for the next novel. I won’t be giving away spoilers here but I certainly wouldn’t mind a revisit to what could happen between either of those potential storylines.
